Welcome to Nymfeo!
Nymfeo or Nympheo (or even Nimfeo) is one of the most picturesque traditional settlements of Greece and one with very high-level tourist infrastructure. Its old name in the local Vlachian dialect (Neveska or Nivaesta) means ‘invisible,’ either because it is hidden in the forest, or because it lies in a natural fold. Its history goes back to 1385, when it was first built, and it soon became the center of the economical and cultural growth of the region. Its prosperity culminated in the 18th and 19th centuries when, together with merchants from almost the whole of Macedonia, the local tradesman travelled to the civic centers of central Europe and Constantinople accumulating substantial wealth which became the basis of a high level of civilization. Public schools and mansions, as well as the contents of the small local cultural museum speak for its cultural heritage.
