Tinos to Andros for a Full-day Tour
From Tinos, this is the longest full-day excursion to the second largest Cycladic island, Andros.
Andros Gavrio Port |
Your two-hour ferry trip begins at 08:15 on Tinos and ends at the Port of Gavrion on the southwest coast of Andros Island. Take advantage of the ship's sailing along the Andros coastline to take in superb views of the island we are going to tour. The coach will be waiting there to take you across the island to Andros Town, passing along the way some of the most beautiful and impressive scenery in all of the Cyclades. This incredibly green island is home to many of Greece’s most important shipping families, with horse farms, and weekend “cottages” belonging to wealthy Athenians.
After a drive of about one hour, you reach Andros Town, the capital of the island. Ample time will be afforded to wander through the town to admire the local architecture, a mix of 19th century ornate and 20th century modern Cycladic. There will also be a visit to the Houlandri Museum of Modern Art, with its permanent exhibition of artworks by Picasso, Chagall, Matisse, and others.
Driving back toward the south coast, the tour will stop for lunch at the medieval village of Messaria. Afterward, we continue on to Paleokastro, an old village with the remnants of a Venetian castle, then northwest to the old fortified town of Zagora, excavated in the early 1970s, and with an extraordinary view.
Further north, we then reach the archaeological site of Paleopolis and continue on to the small seaside village of Batsi. Here, we can take a coffee or a snack, explore this lovely village, and have a swim, before returning to the Port of Gavrion for our return to Tinos. The ferry departs Andros at 19:30. Notes: Groups Only, with minimum 15 persons. From: Tinos Town
