Welcome to Zagora!
Situated approximately 47 kilometers from Volos, Zagora is the largest village of the Pelion region. Historically, it was a wealthy village owing to silk production and sea trade, hence some of the most beautiful mansions of the region. It also has a rich cultural history, which can be viewed today in several of the local institutions. The library houses a collection of 15,000 volumes; and the old Rigas School was once one of the most important in the country, with an illustrious roster of graduates, including Rigas Ferreos, who was instrumental in laying the ground work for the Greek Revolution, and the Patriarch of Konstantinople, Kallinikos Lapatis. Today, the village is primarily involved with agriculture, its apples and pears being well known throughout the country.
