Anavyssos
Welcome to Anavyssos!
Anavyssos lies on the Apollo Coast to Sounion, 50 km (31 mi.) from Athens and 2O km (12.5 mi.) from El Venizelos International airport. It is one of the most attractive costal tourist resorts of southern Attica, with large sandy beaches and quiet secluded coves.
Once upon a time it used to be full with salterns, later the area was used by the very rich Athenians to have their summer villas built. In the last 20 years, more and more people use Anavyssos as their permanent place to live and still more come here to spend their holidays. They have easy access to nearly all monuments worth visiting and to a good infrastructure of hotels, taverns, restaurants and good beaches. Sailing facilities are also at hand.
Neighbouring communities are Fokia, with its famous fish tavernas on the beach and small fishing harbor, Saronida with its cafés, bars and restaurants, Lavrion, a bustling port for the East Cyclades with numerous bars, cafés, clubs, restaurants and Sounio with its spectacular villas and small secluded beaches.
The area has a long history with the production and cultivation of wine. In fact, according to legend, Dionysos first gave the residents of Attica the secrets for the cultivation of the grape and winemaking. The nearby villages of Koropi, Markopoulo, Kalyvia, Kouvaras as well as Anavissos, with their dry vineyards, remain even today as the most representative wine producing sites in Attica.
