Alimos City Quarter
Alimos Marina |
Welcome to Alimos!
Alimos means 'of the sea', belonging to the sea. This is exactly what Alimos is: a city quarter next to the sea and one of the most picturesque suburbs of Athens.
Next to the fascinating Saronic Gulf, it is a place open to all citizens of Athens to visit in their free time, have a cup of coffee or tea at one of its seaside cafeterias, a decent meal at one of its restaurants, a swim when the weather permits it or just enjoy a stroll on one of its beaches.
It is just 8 km (5 Ml) from the center of Athens, with the Acropolis rock clearly visible from the hills and the higher buildings. The approximately 60 km (37 Ml) long sea-side road leading to the promontory of Sounion and the Poseidon Temple starts exactly at Alimos. There is easy access to Athens and Pireus by all means of public transportation, especially so since 2004 when the new tramway going along the Alimos seafront was inaugurated.
The biggest marina in Greece is on Alimos seafront. In Alimos there is also one of the biggest Athletic Centers of the country. The tourist infrastructure is well developed and hotels enjoy a newly upgraded environment, now that the Ellinikon Airport closed down and the new one, the El. Venizelos International Airport, took over all air traffic.
