Gerani Village
Gerani Village |
Welcome to Gerani!
Situated 14 kilometers (8.7 miles) west of Chania, this traditional village is well known for its agricultural production of olive oil, oranges and local wine. It is situated about one kilometer north of the seaside village of the same name, which offers a well-organized Blue Flag beach and water sports. A variety of accommodation is located here, from large hotels to small self-catering complexes, plus a good tourist infrastructure including bars, tavernas, shops, and supermarkets.
If you want to take some time off from sunbathing and swimming, there are nearby villages to explore in addition to Gerani, plus some beautiful, unspoiled countryside that takes you there. You’ll find orange groves, cypresses, plane trees, and eucalyptus, all abundant amid traditional and picturesque villages, noted for their warm Cretan hospitality.
If you have difficulty making friends, and if you're a bit shy about mixing with the locals and being treated to the local tsikoudia, a locally produced and strong vodka-like alcoholic product, it would be advisable to go on with your sunbathing on the beach!
