Vlasti Village
Welcome to Vlasti! |
Welcome to Vlasti!
Vlasti lies 160 kilometers from Thessaloniki and approximately 500 kilometers from Athens (in Larisa we follow the intersection for Kozani, or you can go straight to Thessaloniki and, on the way, follow the signs to Veria and past this to Ptolemaida). You leave the Egnatia Road at the junction of Kozani and take a turn heading towards Ptolemaida and drive towards Kriovrisi, Vlasti, Anarachi. About a kilometer past Kriovrisi we turn left for Vlasti (12kilometers).
Vlasti is located at an altitude of 1,240 meters. Even during a heat wave, the climate is quite cool that warm clothing is an absolute must. Every year an Ecological Festival (The Earth Festival) is held at Vlasti. It is held during four days, and the range of activities is unbelievable, considering the size of the village that hosts it. In the beginning of last century, Vlasti had 6,500 permanent inhabitants (as the infrastructure shown in the Vlasti Album of photos witnesses), but today, no more than some tens of people winter in the village.
The hill of Profiti Ilia, just outside the village, is located in natural surroundings of plain fields that are teeming with beech and oak trees. It is open to free camping, provided one has their own equipment. Younger people, mainly visitors at the Festival, take the opportunity to stay there and enjoy the impressive night sky. After all, sky watching is included in the activities of the Festival, a tell-tale detail. Electricity and potable water are provided, as well as WC facilities and showers.
The tavernas and local cafés in the village, as well as the restaurant at the Mountainous Guest House Mourikiou, are welcoming all who wish to eat and enjoy the traditional Greek hospitality.
