Nestorio Village |
Welcome to Nestorio!
Nestorio is a small village in Western Macedonia, some 500 km (310 miles) from Athens and 16 km (10 miles) southwest of Kastoria. It has become renowned world-wide for the River Party that has taken place there for the last several decades.
A gathering of young people from all over the world has given the event the nickname "Small Woodstock." It takes place every end of July-beginning of August, and it lasts for a period of more or less one week. The events were an initiative that was undertaken three decades ago by a group of young people from Nestorio, together with young Greeks living abroad who used to visit Greece in the summer. They decided to hold their own party at the banks of Aliakmon River and, since then, the party takes place every year.
Hundreds of young people come and camp near the oak trees on the banks of the river, enjoying the facilities offered by the Community. A series of both Greek and International music concerts takes place every year, as well as a lot of other events: Puppet theater or theatrical performances for children, trekking in the river vicinity, sports (archery, parapenting, diving, swimming, etc). A big fireworks show usually ends the River Party. The spot is of fantastic natural beauty and there is a bar and a restaurant at the service of the campers.
