Gouves
Welcome to Gouves!
This well developed section of beachfront lies not far from Hersonissos, though it does not at all have the hectic pace of its larger neighbor. It takes its name from the village of Pano Gouves, which sits on the hillside just a few kilometers from and overlooking the resort.
There’s a friendly atmosphere here, with most holiday life centered at the beach. You’ll find three sandy beaches with some water sports and windsurfing. Tourist facilities, such as restaurants, bars and shops, are adequate, though major shopping would have to be done in Heraklion.
Possible excursions include a trip to Spinalonga, to Knossos and, of course, to Heraklion. For wild nightlife, the nearest destination would be to Hersonissos, a drive of about 15 minutes. There too, you’ll find the largest water park in Greece, which is a perfect excursion for the kids. For Gouves, however, life centers around sun, sea and sand.
