Poros Town
Poros Town |
Welcome to Poros Town!
Poros Town is exactly what one imagines when thinking of the beauty and uniqueness of Greek island life. Its colorful quay, fishing skiffs, water taxis that ferry you around the island and to the mainland, delightful shops and galleries, all combine to provide a spectacular setting for an adventure of learning, fellowship, exploration, and most importantly, just having a wonderful time.
The white cuboid red-tiled houses, with jasmine trailing over the trellises and courtyards, mount the slopes of the promontory towards a blue painted bell-clock, pride and favorite sightseeing of Poros; from the top there is a view of the town, the roadstead and the hills of Troizen (Trizinia).
In the typical fishermen's district, the cafes and tavernas serving fish dishes are decorated with naive paintings. The old arsenal houses a naval school. The coast road (turn left after crossing the canal) runs westward to Russian Bay, a 19th C. Russian naval station situated at a lonely site.
