Antiparos Town
Antiparos town |
Welcome to Chora Antiparos!
Most people are quite surprised when they arrive from the larger island of Paros and find this truly lovely, small village, a microcosm of larger main towns on the larger and more popular islands of the Cyclades. The big advantage to Antiparos Town, and to the island in general, is that it is accessible and so easy to get to, just as easy as getting to the larger island of Paros!
The town is also sometimes called Kastro, as it has a medieval castle dating to 1440 situated at the entrance to one of the town’s main squares. The town has a lovely layout, and everything is at your fingertips. The seafront has plenty of tavernas, cafes, and shops, and you can easily just sit there all day long watching the day-trippers shuttle back and forth to Paros, all coming to visit the magnificent cave.
From the seafront, a main road leads into the heart of the town, which features lovely Cycladic architecture and plenty of little side lanes to explore. This main road brings you to the two pretty village squares. One square leads to the old village wall and the castle (Kastro), and the other is home to a huge eucalyptus tree, a favorite spot for taking a coffee and watching life pass by.
The bulk of the town is pedestrian-zoned, and wandering through the small streets, or shopping in the markets, is a delightful way to occupy your time away from the beaches. It is here where you will find a lively nightlife, a couple of dozen restaurants and tavernas, a double handful of bars, and the ever-present Internet cafe. You are always just steps away from the beautiful countryside and a very good selection of beaches.
