Welcome to Agios Fokas!
Aghios Fokas (St. Fokas) Beach is found on the Southeastern coast of Kos island, at a distance of 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Kos Town. It has a sand beach, black colored because of the proximity of the Nissyros volcano. The same volcano favors the existence of spa springs (Embros Thermes) in the area, around 3 km (2 miles) from Aghios Fokas. World renowned for the high water temperature, ranging from 40-47 ºC (104 -117 ºF) and high calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium ion and chlorine and sulphur anion concentrations, the springs were discovered by the Italian archaeologist Luciano Laurenzi in 1934 and have ever since offered relief to people suffering from rheumatics, arthritis and gynecological diseases. There is adequate tourist infrastructure in Aghios Fokas and bus connection with Kos Town every quarter of an hour. Swimming is superb, but restricted to good swimmers, as the sea bottom is rather steep.
