Sithonia- Nikiti Area

Welcome to Nikiti!

Built at the narrow entrance of the Sithonia Peninsula (the middle one of the three ‘fingers’ forming Chalkidiki), Nikiti is renowned for having the longest beach in Greece (32 kilometers / 20 miles long!), a highly developed apiculture, and the most difficult international swimming marathon in Europe: the crossing of Toroneos Gulf (26 kilometers /16 miles), which takes place every July.

Formerly a small society of cultivators of the fields then belonging to the Mt. Athos Monasteries, the village is inhabited by some 2000 people who, besides apiculture, earn their living on tourism. There are a number of small hotels and self-catering apartments to rent. If you do not feel like cooking your meal, there are a lot of beachfront tavernas and restaurants where one can even have breakfast. Of course, there are the ever-present cafeterias for you to enjoy your refreshments while clad in your bathing suit!

Nearby cities or villages, which are very good half or full-day excursions, are Thessaloniki, capital of Macedonia (93 kilometers / 57.5 miles), Metamorfossis (7 kilometers / 4.5 miles), Neos Marmaras (20 kilometers / 12.5 miles), Nea Moudania (32 kilometers / 20 miles) and Polygyros (40 kilometers / 25 miles).

Pine trees edge the beach, seeming to almost root in the sand, and provide excellent shade against over-exposure to the sun. The beach is so long that there will surely be at least one tree for every visitor! One last thing: Leaving Nikiti, the very best present to give to yourself and to your friends would be some of the locally produced honey!
