Vouliagmeni Seaside Suburb

Vouliagmeni Organized Beach

Vouliagmeni Organized Beach

Welcome to Vouliagmeni!

Just beyond Voula on the magnificent Gold Coast of Attica, the seaside suburb of Vouliagmeni offers some outstanding beaches to enjoy. While most of its beaches entail an entrance fee, the price is reasonable considering that you can spend the entire day there and have lots of water sports to amuse yourself with, such as wind surfing, water skiing, Jet skiing, canoeing, diving, boating and sailing, snorkeling, waterslides, etc.

Also, the beaches offer a very good variety of eating facilities, changing rooms and showers, plus plenty of sun beds and umbrellas. A couple of specific beaches worth mentioning are Lemos and Asteras.

Lemos has been recently refurbished and now has access for the disabled, several eating facilities, including fast food, and waterslides for the amusement of children and those adults who are young at heart! Asteras has become quite a trendy beach with a very lively social scene and with the ever-popular beach volley. It also has access for the disabled, plus eating and drinking facilities.

And, for those interested, at the back of the beach are the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, probably not so astonishing as this coastal region is also sometimes referred to as the Apollon Coast!

The village of Vouliagmeni is a pretty, upscale residential area with plenty of restaurants, tavernas, and cafes. There are local sporting activities available, such as tennis, basketball, and volleyball.

Quite near to the village is the fabulous Lake of Vouliagmeni, a natural lake fed by underground caves, which has a year-round temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The lake is well known for its therapeutic properties, helpful in the treatment of arthritis, rheumatism, neuralgia, and gynecological ailments. Quite interesting about the Lake is that the region itself took its name from Lake Vouliagmeni, which means “sunken area.” The sinking is due to the collapse of underground caves, some of which connect with the sea. The corrosive solution of limestone by rainwater can easily create such Karstic phenomena, which is what has happened with this lake.
