Nafpaktos City
Nafpaktos: Port houses, part of the Castle and the clock tower |
Welcome to Nafpaktos!
Nafpaktos is the capital city of Nafpaktia region in the Prefecture of Aetoloakarnania, and it is one of the oldest towns in Greece, with a history of more than 3500 years. The town spreads to an area of 5500 acres. It is located between Messolonghi and Delfi, right across the Peloponnese, amphitheatrically built on the southern side of a hill crowned with a castle, sloping down to the picturesque walled small Venetian port, the heart of the town.
The climate here is considered perhaps the best in Greece; moderate Mediterranean, with mild winters and cool summers. During the summer months, there is a rich program of cultural activities, with theatrical, musical and dance performances, and exhibitions of books, paintings and photography.
There are two crystal clear beaches in the town, one at its east and one at its west end, crowded with locals and visitors who spend their summer here. There is a good tourist infrastructure in the city: hotels of all categories, restaurants, fish-tavernas, cafeterias, clubs and pubs, and more. But, the most favorite past-time here are the serene evening walks along the seafront of Psani. If, on the contrary, it is a fervent nightlife that you are after, Nafpaktos will not disappoint you!
As one can understand, having had a look at our photos, Nafpaktos is a much more beautiful town than words can tell. What cannot be described at all, though, is the friendly attitude of the people and how much they believe in Philoxenia (a compound word from Philos=friend and xenos=foreigner and guest. Yes, you got it right! There is only one word in the Greek language for both Foreigner and Guest!)
