Heraklion Transportation
Heraklion has a fine public transportation system, and getting around the large city is not at all difficult. Of course, many visitors prefer to hire a car, even if only for a day, to have a chance to see some of the beautiful surrounding countryside and the more distant seaside resorts. We can arrange your car hire in advance, and even arrange to have the car waiting for you at the airport. By the way, the Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport has the busiest charter traffic within Greece, and is second only to Athens in the number of arrivals and departures of general commercial flights. The port of Heraklion is one of the busiest in the country, with ferryboats arriving from Piraeus, Thessaloniki, and from many of the Aegean islands. Heraklion is also a major port-of-call on the many cruise ship itineraries in the southern Mediterranean.
