Zakynthos Sightseeing
Starting the exploration of the northeastern coasts, you will go past Akrotiri, the old country settlement, where numerous mansions were gathered. Dionysios Solomos’ mansion used to be there and part of it can still be found today.
The next stop on this route is the region Tsilivi, which is definitely worth visiting as it is one of the liveliest entertainment spots on the island. The beautiful hotels situated in the green landscape next to the beach will offer you excellent accommodation. Also, numerous restaurants, tavernas, and gift stores can be found in the area.
The small cape Gidakia or Todaritis forms a small secure harbor and a shallow clear-blue beach, ideal for a family vacation. On the peak of the cape, you will see a Venetian watchtower.
Near Tsilivi beach and on your left, the village Planos is situated. Due to its picturesque scenery and its mild climate, it receives numerous visitors who enjoy its cosmopolitan atmosphere.
Going north from Planos, many roads and paths will lead you to beaches ideal for swimming, such as Tragaki, Cape Gaidaros, Amboula, Pachinammos, Drossia, and Psarrou.
The interior central road goes through fields with olive trees and vegetables and, after the monastery of Panagia Dermatoussa, it leads to Tragaki, a picturesque village built on a hill and surrounded by olive orchards.
This road will lead you to the region of Gerakari, where there are three villages: Messo, Ano, and Kato Gerakari. The old churches of the villages are worth visiting. Among them the 16th century church of Agios Nicolaos in Ano Gerakari and also, in the same village, the church of Panagia Lagadiotissa, exhibiting exquisite artwork.
Following the same road, you will reach the two beaches of Alkiana, as well as the beaches Ammoudi, Xechortiati, and Agia Kiriaki. Here you will see the ruins of a tomb of the Mycenean era.
The next stop is the coastal region of Alikes with its fine sand beaches. This region is highly developed, and its fine hotels, restaurants, and bars offer everything needed for an excellent holiday. Worth visiting here is the stone bridge on the river Skourti and the salt mines (alykes), after which the region was named.
