The bay of Voidokilia extends from the base of the old castle. A tranquil, carefree sanctuary, the floor of the bay is covered with a thick layer of sand. Not far away, Sfakteria Island protects the bay. Bird watching and photographing is possible around the bay, as the Hellenic Ornithological Society has built and maintains a path with special wildlife hideouts.
Voidokoilia is definitely the most popular beach in Messinia, and definitely considered one of the most beautiful of the Mediterranean area. In the shape of the Greek letter omega (Ω), its fine sand forms a gulf within which are captured its crystal clear waters. This beach has been named "A Place of Particular Natural Beauty". Once there, please help it to remain that way! Above the beach we find Nestor's Cave and above this is Palaiokastro from which the view is unique. On the right of the gulf is the tomb of Nestor's son, Thrasimidis.
One of the best hiking routes begins from Voidokoilia. The climb towards Nestor's Cave begins where the beach ends, while after the Cave the route continues towards Palaiokastro from which the view is worth seeing.
The present album is just a series of photos of relaxed vacations on the beach. Looking at the surrounding of the persons photographed, one takes an idea of what Viodokilia Bay could offer to the stressed city dweller on vacations.
