Relics of a glorious past, the houses and mansions in Galaxidi, mostly renovated, stand proudly on their foundations, reminding everybody of the town's rich nautical tradition and its important contribution to the Revolution of the enslaved Greek people against the Turkish rule in 1821. The Galaxidi Houses, together with its natural environment, make this town one of the most picturesque in modern Greece.

Galaxidi Town, Itea, Chrisso and Delphi
While the sun is setting and the first lights are turned on in Galaxidi Town, the partly cloudy sky, benevolent to our photographer, creates well placed openings in the clouds in such a way that Itea City, across from Galaxidi, Chrisso Village, above Itea, and Delphi Town are all caressed by the last light of the day. Any descriptions fall short of the magical beauty of the Town, crowned with St Nicholas Church, and its surroundings! |

Galaxidi Ruined Mansion
Only a few buildings in Galaxidi appear in this irreparable stage; it is a sure sign that many heirs are involved, some of whom have dispersed to the four corners of the globe! |

Galaxidi School For Girls
Founded in 1880, it was built in the Neoclassical architectural style. Until 1929 it served as a school for girls. A sign of the wealth of the town, just before the application of steamship technology towards the end of the 19th century.
The building is on a single level with a section at the back rising to two storeys. It is neoclassical with an entrance of archaic style with two Doric columns. It has been declared a historical building to be preserved. Both façade and ground floor have been repaired.
Today the building houses the theatre of the Municipality of Galaxidhi, but the space is ample enough to accomodate other activities as well. |
