Welcome to Skiathos Town!
The capital, Skiathos Town, is a lovely, picturesque town to explore, with whitewashed houses, red-tiled roofs, and tiny lanes, all interspersed with greenery and colorful flowers. For a look at one of the 19th century houses still in existence, and now a museum illustrating the life of Skiathos’ most famous citizen, the poet and writer Alexandros Papadiamantis, you need to get off the main street and begin to explore.
The town is full of shops, restaurants, tavernas, and bars. If you were looking for a quiet, uncrowded island capital, you have chosen the wrong island! While the town is delightful to explore, you will not be alone, especially at night.
There are no local crafts which Skiathians produce, but the town has a few nice shops and antique galleries, in addition to the usual number of tourist/souvenir shops. Nightlife abounds in the capital, so you will primarily find yourself at the beach during the day, and pub-crawling at night.
