Welcome to Koroni!
Koroni used to be a Byzantine port until it was captured by the Venetians in 1206 and was used as a supply center. In 1500 the castle of Koroni was occupied by the Turk Bayazit Pasha and remained under Turkish domination until 1686 when the Venetians recaptured it. In 1715, when the Venetians left Peloponnese, they surrendered the castle to the Turks who, again, dominated the castle until 1828, when the French general Maison, acting on behalf of the Greek Revolutionary Forces, liberated it.
